VAN NUYS, Calif.
— A former professional surfer turned father of four has built a boat in the remote Pacific Northwest.
Brigid Lee, of Van Nuys, built her family’s first boat in 2014 when she was a teen and then again as a college student.
She says it was one of the most rewarding experiences of her life.
Lee was surfing the Pacific Northwest for a month when she noticed a storm system on the horizon and decided to build a kayak.
She made the kayak and set out to explore.
Lee says she loves living on a remote island where there are no people.
But she says her family is doing well in a tough economy.
She’s also grateful for the support she received from friends and family.
Lee is a former professional surfboarder who’s now in her fourth year as a board owner.
She hopes her work as a family entrepreneur will help others in need.
She has a foundation that works to promote responsible ocean stewardship and environmental awareness.
